MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Health Department of Jhelum Valley district conducted an HPV (Human Papillomavirus) awareness seminar in Tehsil Chikkar.

The 12-day HPV vaccination campaign will continue from September 15 to 27. In the PHV vaccination campaign, girls aged 9 to 14 years will be vaccinated against this deadly disease.

The event was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Jhelum Valley District Ms. Banesh Jaral, accompanied by District Health Officer Dr. Tahir Rahim Mughal, Assistant Commissioner Chakar Ali Sayam, Deputy Education Officer Abdul Ghafoor Abbasi, Assistant District Trainer (ADT), Madam Quratul Ain, WHO representative, Dr. Ayesha Jaral, and others.

The seminar began with a welcome remark by the District Health Officer, who welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of HPV prevention and awareness.

How People Get Affected by HPV

During the seminar, District Health Officer Dr. Tahir Rahim Mughal said that HPV infection occurs when the human papillomavirus enters your body through small wounds in your skin or membranes.

The virus is so small that these entry points are often microscopic and completely imperceptible.

Your body encounters this virus mainly during close activities such as skin-to-skin contact. HPV is different from other infections in that if it is activated at all, it can lie dormant in your system for months or years…

The virus targets cells in your genitals, mouth, throat, and sometimes your hands or feet. Most of the time, the human immune system recognizes HPV as an unwelcome guest and works silently to eliminate it without causing any symptoms.

Symptoms of HPV Infection

Most HPV infections do not cause any symptoms, which is why many people never know they have the virus. Your body often clears the infection before any symptoms appear.

When symptoms do appear, they depend on what type of HPV you have and where it affects your body.
Later, the Assistant District Trainer briefed the participants while Dr. Aisha Jaral (WHO) gave a detailed talk about HPV.

At the end of the ceremony, Deputy Commissioner Ms. Banesh Jaral appreciated the efforts of the Health Department and the Education Department and expressed her determination that all possible support would be provided to make the HPV campaign successful in Jhelum Valley District.

She said that such an awareness campaign awakens the consciousness of people to control diseases on their own, and she expressed her gratitude for their hard work in this effort.
