MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has extended the tenure of ad-hoc, temporary, and contract employees till June 30, 2025.
According to a notification issued by the Services and General Administration Department, the “President of AJK has approved the unconditional extension of the tenure of the continuously serving ad hoc, temporary, and contract employees of various departments up to 03-06-2025.”
With the approval, the extension will apply to the tenure of such employees who, at the time of issuance of the extension, possessed the required educational qualifications as per the prevailing rules at the time of initial appointment.
More than 4300 contract, ad hoc, and temporary employees have been facing an uncertain situation for the last 3 years and are forced to protest repeatedly.
Instead of taking a final decision on the future of these employees, the Azad Kashmir government has been giving 3-month extensions after every three months.
It should be remembered that the PML-N government had made employees permanent under the Services Act during its tenure, but the Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had repealed this act as soon as it came to power, which led to state-wide protests by the employees.
The government formed a committee to decide the future of the employees, but could not decide to make the government employees permanent, which still leaves the future of the employees in doubt.
Ad-hoc employees have protested several times for permanent status, but the government committee could not decide on their permanent status.
