ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The federal government on Tuesday announced that the gas prices will not increase and will remain the same for the next six months.
Announcing the decision, the Minister for Petroleum, Ali Pervaiz Malik, said that the decision was made in line with the direction of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to provide relief to consumers, the minister said while chairing a briefing.
Malik said, “Gas prices will remain unchanged for all consumers due to reforms,” adding that the increase in circular debt in the gas sector has stopped.
He added that the government has struck a deal to transfer excess LNG cargo from Qatar to the global market.
“Gas supply to domestic consumers across the country is continuing, and no local gas field is closed, and power plants are taking gas in excess,” he noted. The meeting was informed that gas supply hours have been extended from 5 am to 10 pm.
It was briefed that UFG losses in Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited have reduced from 9 percent to 5 percent and from 17 percent to 10 percent in Sui Southern Gas Company.
Earlier this month, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) raised the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) price by Rs 10.68 per kg, bringing the rate to Rs 219.67 per kg.
