GILGIT BALTISTAN (Kashmir English): In a tragic incident, a glacier burst in the Talidas area of Ghizer has caused severe flooding, causing damage to the buildings, houses, and livestock.
According to the Spokesperson of the Gilgit-Baltistan government Glacier burst in the Talidas region of Ghizer’s Gopis has caused massive flooding, inundating dozens of villages and spreading havoc.
Spokesperson Faizullah Firaq confirmed that although the flood has caused damage to public property, no casualties have been reported yet.
He further stated that the unexpected burst of the glacier has cut off the flow of the Ghizer River and has formed an additional lake, which raises concerns for another burst of flooding in neighboring villages.
The official reported that over 50 people who were trapped in the floodwaters were safely rescued. The Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, on the other hand, is personally overseeing the situation to avoid further damage.
Additionally, rescue efforts are underway in full force, with Rescue 1122, the Disaster Management Authority, and local administration teams working in collaboration at the site to help affected families and reduce the effects of the disaster.
The authorities have issued a stern warning to the residents to avoid travelling towards the lake areas and to remain vigilant during these difficult times.
