PARIS: (Kashmir English): French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that France has decided to recognize the Palestinian state.

A letter written by French President Macron to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas was shared on social media.

Sharing the letter, the French president wrote that for a lasting and just peace in the Middle East, France has decided to recognize the State of Palestine.

He said that he will formally announce the recognition of the Palestinian state in his address to the United Nations General Assembly in September.

The French president wrote that we need an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and massive humanitarian assistance for the people of Gaza.

He said that we must also ensure that Hamas is disarmed, Gaza is secured and rebuilt, and, ultimately, we must establish the State of Palestine.

Macron said that the French people want peace in the Middle East. It is our responsibility as French citizens, together with Israelis, Palestinians, and our European and international partners, to prove that peace is possible.
