ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): A gas cylinder explosion has been reported in the Supreme Court’s canteen, injuring at least twelve people, IG Islamabad confirmed.

While talking to the media outside the Supreme Court, the IG Islamabad stated that the gas cylinder blast occurred at 10:55 am inside the Court’s canteen.

The explosion has injured 12 workers, out of whom three are admitted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), whereas the remaining nine are receiving essential medical care in Polyclinic Islamabad, IG Islamabad stated.

According to the hospital sources, two of the workers are in critical condition.

Panic and fast evacuation

The blast suddenly triggered a panic inside the building as the shockwaves jolted the Supreme Court premises, forcing lawyers, judges’ staff, and other employees to rush outside for their safety.

The loud blast shook the lower floors of the court complex and sent people running toward open areas. Emergency operations began soon after, and rescue teams and security personnel reached the site within minutes.

The injured workers, who were reportedly engaged in maintenance work near the AC plant, were shifted to the nearby hospital for medical treatment.
