RAWALAKOT (Kashmir English): Rawalakot Police has completed the first phase of the Safe City Project, in which 25 cameras have been installed.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, DIG Police Poonch Sardar Zaheer Khan said that nine points across Rawalakot City, including all the entry and exit points, will come under the surveillance of these cameras.

Furthermore, DIG Police said that 150 cameras would be installed in the next phase, adding that “the project will prove to be a game changer for the district.”

“The surveillance will not only help prevent crimes but will also help in resolving the problems of chaotic traffic in the city,” he added.

In addition to that, the police official told reporters that traffic officials across the city would be monitored from the control room during their duty.

While talking to the media, DIG Poonch said the cameras are equipped with artificial intelligence and will perform several tasks at a time.

“The cameras are capable of reading facial expressions and number plates.”

The senior police official added that the cameras can alarm the control room if any wanted criminal, having entered in database, passes in front of it, helping police to easily arrest them.

“Apart from this, any stolen vehicles that we put in the database, when it passes in front of cameras will be displayed at control room, which we can easily traced and recovered,” he said.

In addition to that, the cameras are laced with PTZ technology, allowing them to rotate and keep track of the movement in the surrounding area.

Rawalakot Police Service Center

In addition to that, DIG Police Poonch briefed media that Police Service Center was inagurated in Rawalakot on June 03, 2024.

“Now, instead of going around police stations, multiple services/facilities are being provided to the public under one roof.”

He added that facilities, including Character Certificate, General Police Verification, FIR Copy, Vehicle Verification, Driving Learner Permit, Legal Guidance on Violence Against Women, Crime Report, and Missing Documents, are being provided in ‘Police Khidmat Markaz.’

Residents of Azad Kashmir who are abroad for employment have been given the facility of getting a character certificate through the embassy of the respective country. Such people can get a character certificate from abroad through the embassy.
