KARACHI (Kashmir English): Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir, on Saturday, attended the closing ceremony of the 35th National Games in Karachi.
Attending the ceremony as the chief guest, he presented the winning shield to the Pakistan Army for winning the Quaid-e-Azam trophy at the national games.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir also distributed prizes among the teams securing first, second, and third positions.
Pakistan Army came in first, taking home 353 medals, out of which 200 were gold, 97 were silver, and 56 were bronze. Wapda came in second with 232 medals, out of which 85 were gold, 73 were silver, and 74 were bronze.
Pakistan Navy came in third with 110 medals, 36 of which were gold, 39 were silver, and 35 were bronze. Hosts Sindh finished with 96 medals, out of which 11 were gold, 26 were silver, and 59 were bronze.
Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari presented an honorary shield to Field Marshal Munir during the National Games ceremony. He also honoured the Field Marshal by presenting him with a Sindhi cap and ajrak.
Addressing the ceremony, Zardari said he was pleased with the successful organisation of the 35th National Games. He said the National Games are a symbol of national unity and solidarity and reflect the country’s commitment to harmony.
Bilawal thanked the Field Marshal on behalf of the people of Sindh for attending the event. He said the games reaffirm national cohesion and that participating athletes had proved they are second to none in talent and ability.
He said that under the leadership of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Pakistan’s armed forces defeated the enemy and the country achieved a historic success in Marka-e-Haq. He added that Pakistan safeguarded its sovereignty under his leadership.
