ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): In a recent development, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has abolished the manual income tax returns and has ordered all concerned to file e-returns of income and statements under withholding.
According to the notification issued by the Federal Board of Revenue, the FBR has introduced a draft amendment in the Income Tax Rules 2002.
Exceeding These Withholding Tax Limits.
For an individual, the electronic filing of the income tax return and withholding statement shall be compulsory, FBR added.
Earlier, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had extended the deadline for filing the income tax returns for the 2025 tax year.
The notification stated that the income tax particulars could now be filed till October 31. Before this decision, the authority announced to extend the deadline two weeks ago, setting October 15 as the last date of submission.
The previous extension was granted following requests from various trade bodies, taxpayers, and tax bar associations, according to the FBR.
Revenue shortfall
The FBR faced a shortfall of Rs1.2 trillion against its original revenue target of Rs12.97 trillion for FY2025, despite introducing Rs1.3 trillion in new taxes.
The shortfall triggered scrutiny from the global lending body during recent technical-level talks, where Islamabad was asked to explain the underperformance, according to media reports.
