HAVELI (Kashmir English): The District Bar Association Haveli elections have come to an end, with Farooq Gujjar Advocate winning the presidential race by 18 votes. His rival got 17 votes, and officials tossed out one vote because the voter marked the wrong spot.
In the Vice President election, Aziz Farooqi crushed his opponent Khalid Chauhan by winning by 34 votes. The total number of voters was 36 however, one vote was nullified making the total number of voters 35.
Meanwhile, Jahangir Advocate won the Secretary, Publication election with 18 votes, and one vote was invalidated.
The elections were peacefully held, with a total participation of 36 voters. Sohail Masood Advocate has, however, challenged the rejected vote, stating that it should not have been rejected since the voter had stamped the name as opposed to applying a mark.
In other news, Wasif Gohar, Shakeel Advocate, Chengiz Khan, and Raja Zulqarnain Advocate have won without opposition for the roles of general secretary joint secretary, finance, and secretary-librarian, in that order.
The elections for the District Bar Association Rawalakot have also come to a close, with the results announcing the new President for the association.
Securing 101 votes, the winning presidential candidate, Sabir Kashmiri Advocate, is elected as the new president of District Bar Association Rawalakot.
In the vice-presidential election, Atiqur Rehman Advocate took the lead, securing 94 votes while Bilal Shakeel Advocate was able to obtain only 80. In the elections for the presidential candidate, Izzat Beg Advocate stood in second place by getting 61 votes; Imtaz Akbar made it last with just 15 votes.
Of the total 178 votes delivered in the election, one vote for president was rejected on technical grounds, while four votes were cast for vice president and subsequently nullified. The elections were held free and fair and witnessed all necessary arrangements for the integrity of the process.
