Farooq Abdullah survives firing incident at wedding in IIOJ&K

SRINAGAR (Kashmir English): The former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, and President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, Farooq Abdullah, has survived  an armed attack while attending a marriage ceremony in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K).

The incident occurred at a marriage ceremony held at Royal Park in the Greater Kailash region, where a man suddenly opened fire, creating panic among the guests and security personnel.

During the firing, the Deputy Chief Minister of the state, Surinder Kumar Choudhary, received minor injuries, according to reports, after he was hit by shrapnel. His condition is reported to be stable, and he has received immediate medical treatment.

Farooq Abdullah and the Chief Minister’s Advisor, Nasir Aslam Wani, escaped the incident unscathed.

The security personnel present at the scene responded to the incident and overpowered the assailant within minutes of the firing. The assailant has been arrested, and the weapon used to fire has been seized.

The police identified the assailant, Kamal Singh Jamwal, as a resident of Old Mandi in the Jammu region. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the reason behind the crime, and whether there were other people involved.

Security has been tightened in the region following the incident.
