NEELUM VALLEY (Kashmir English): In light of directives from Secretary of Civil Defence and the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), Ms Tehzeeb-un-Nisa, a series of emergency preparedness training in Neelum has been initiated to equip students with life-saving skills in case of potential conflict or war-like conditions.

This important training programme includes basic first aid, use of shelters, and safety measures during shelling or bombing. As part of the campaign, a joint session was held on Tuesday by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and Emergency Services Rescue 1122 Neelum at Government Boys Primary School, Duwariyan.

A practical segment taught students important procedures for emergency rescue and cross-border firing safety and injury management during the session. The training objectives are designed to develop effective responses for students in emergencies because their location near the LoC puts them at risk.

Deputy Commissioner and Chairman DDMA, Nadeem Ahmed Janjua, is personally overseeing the emergency preparedness training in Neelum. He has issued clear instructions to Rescue 1122, DDMA staff, and other relevant departments to remain on high alert given possible escalations along the border.

Operations Director Saeed-ur-Rehman Qureshi has directed all SDMA staff to maintain constant coordination with relevant departments and institutions.

In schools across Neelum, the message is being taken seriously. Teachers, students, and administrators are participating in hands-on training designed to build basic emergency skills and develop emotional resilience, especially among younger students who may find such situations particularly overwhelming.

The SDMA and DDMA have further plans to expand the programme across other educational institutions in the Neelum district. The aim is to reach a broader segment of the population, particularly in high-risk areas where such knowledge could mean the difference between life and death.

By prioritising emergency preparedness training in Neelum, the authorities are taking proactive steps to safeguard lives and build community resilience in one of the most sensitive regions of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
