RAWALPINDI (Kashmir English): The death toll has reached 31 and multple injured in a suicide blast at a mosque on the outskirts of Rawalpindi on Friday, Hospital sources said.
A blast occurred at Khadijah al-Kubra mosque in the Tarlai area during Friday prayer. The suicide bomber has been identified as a Khwarij, and officials said that he was stopped at the gate of the Mosque building, where he exploded himself after realizing that he could not escape.
The blast triggered panic, with authorities declaring an emergency at hospitals across the federal capital and placing security agencies on high alert. Police said that among those killed was the cousin of Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, while another relative was injured.
The site of the blast was completely sealed off by security personnel, and authorities are investigating the cause and nature of the explosion.
Meanwhile, police and Rescue 1122 personnel reached the site of the incident and initiated rescue operations after the explosion. An emergency was imposed at the Polyclinic, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), and CDA Hospital.
Earlier, on the directives of Minister of Interior Mohsin Naqvi, Minister of State Talal Chaudhry reached the hospital to check on the injured. Talal Chaudhry has directed the medical staff to provide special medical facilities for the injured in the blast.
Initial investigation identifies bomber
The suicide bomber has been identified, state-run PTV News reported, citing government sources. As per the reliable information, the suicide bomber received training in terrorist acts from Afghanistan, sources said.
“The suicide bomber has traveled to Afghanistan several times and returned from Afghanistan some time ago,” government sources said.
Sources said that the various terrorist groups present in Afghanistan are a threat to the security of the entire region under the patronage of the Taliban regime.

“A nexus between Afghanistan and India is behind every terrorist act in Pakistan. The entire nation stands like a leaden wall in front of such heinous and cowardly acts,” government sources said, adding that such cowardly attacks on mosques and innocent citizens cannot shake the resolve of the Pakistani nation.
PM condemns attack
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued strong condemnations regarding the attack at the Imambargah in Tarlai. He expresses profound grief and sorrow over the martyrdoms in the blast and extends condolences to the bereaved families.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif further met Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and directed a thorough investigation of the incident and immediate identification of the perpetrators to bring them to justice.

He also directed the provision of the best medical facilities to the injured and ordered Health Minister Mustafa Kamal to personally oversee the medical care for the injured, ensuring they receive the best possible facilities.
“The culprits of the blast should be identified and brought to real justice. Prime Minister No one will be allowed to spread mischief and unrest in the country,” he said.
President Asif Ali Zardari also said that targeting innocent people was a crime against humanity and reaffirmed that the entire nation stood shoulder to shoulder with the affected families in this hour of grief.
