ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Islamabad police have prolonged the deadline for residents of the federal capital to acquire driving licenses by a week, shifting it from October 1 to October 7.
The move was taken on the special directions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi to facilitate the public more.
The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) announced that there would be a crackdown on October 18 against drivers and motorcyclists who are using vehicles without licenses. The offenders will be taken into action legally, including arrest and seizure of vehicles.
The authorities also made it clear that the people caught driving without a license would not be given character certificates until they had one.
Authorities said the new steps were aimed at promoting road safety, enhancing compliance with traffic regulations, and preventing unlicensed driving throughout the capital.
The ITP has already increased services at facilitation centers, including longer hours of operation and mobile units, to cater to growing demand for licenses. Citizens have been encouraged to get licenses before the extended deadline in order to escape fines.
