MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Deputy Commissioner Muzaffarabad has formed a five-member inquiry committee to probe the violent incidents unfolded at the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) last week.
As per details, the inquiry committee will investigate the incident of baton-charge and violence against students of UAJK, who were protesting in varsity’s City Campus over fee-related issue.
A team comprising senior officials has been formed, under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner, Syed Imran Abbas Naqvi.
The team further comprises of the Additional Superintendent of Police Muzaffarabad Syed Raza Hassan Gilani, Municipal Magistrate Muzaffarabad Sardar Imran, Secretary General Central Bar Association Muzaffarabad Chaurdhy Toufeeq Ahmed, and PDSP Muzaffarabad Bashir Khan.
As per the notification, the committee will submit its recommendations within 10 days after obtaining information from the affected students, eyewitnesses present at the scene, university officials, administration and police officers.
Secondly, after the investigation, the inquiry committee will be bound to determine those responsible for the incidents and also make its recommendations regarding disciplinary and legal action against them.
In addition to that, the committee will also submit its recommendations for the prevention and remediation of such incidents in the future.
Earlier, the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) City campus sacked Deputy Director of Student Affairs Adnan Altaf and appointed Junaid Ahmed Mir through an official notification issued on March 10, 2025.
According to the notification, Adnan Altaf, a lecturer in the Department of Public Health, has been relieved of his additional responsibilities as Deputy Director of Student Affairs. His reassignment comes as part of an administrative decision approved by the Vice-Chancellor of UAJK.
The decision came days after the students announced a nationwide protest, which was later canceled, against the university and district administration.
