MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Kashmir Public Health Department and Municipality Corporation Muzaffarabad has refused to restore the blocked sewerage line near Model Science College in the city’s Upper Chatter area.
The blocked sewer line has left residents grappling with the stench of boiling sewage.
As per details, the Public Health Department claimed that it lacks the staff to restore the sewerage line, citing a need to prepare a new scheme, while the Municipality insists that the work does not fall under their authority.
The Public Health department maintained that there was a plan to connect the sewerage line of the Upper Chatter residential area with the sewer of Model Science College, State Bank, and Chhatar Bank Square, which was hindered by a few people.
The stalemate has affected the local Jamia Masjid Ahle Hadith and Madrasa Jamia Muhammadiya, which have been severely impacted by the sewage. Since the 27th Ramadan, the water supply to the mosque has been shut off due to contamination, and holidays were declared at the madrasa.
As per details, the department has been providing water to the mosque via a tank, but resources are dwindling, making residents struggle for water as summer temperatures rise.
Earlier, government officials of the concerned department visited the place multiple times, but no resolution has been reached.
