SRINAGAR (Kashmir English): The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has said that the Indian BJP regime has snatched every right, including the right to life, of the Kashmiris, with arbitrary detentions, harassment, cordon and search operations.

It said torture has become routine in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, in a statement issued in Srinagar, said that the lives, dignity, and freedom of Kashmiris are at the mercy of brutal Indian forces and the regime, which is using draconian laws to silence the Kashmiri voice.

Human rights violations in occupied Kashmir

The statement said that human rights violations in occupied Kashmir have increased to an alarming level since the illegal and unilateral revocation of the special status of the territory in August 2019, and deplored that India is using draconian laws to stifle political dissent in the region.

Condemning the locking of Jamia Masjid during the holy occasion of Shab-e-Qadr and the house arrest of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the APHC said that every Kashmiri feels suffocated in an atmosphere of fear and terror in IIOJK, adding that crackdowns, cordon and search operations, and raids have become a routine matter in the territory.

The APHC said that democratic institutions are under threat in India and saner voices are being muzzled by the Bharatiya Janata Party and its offshoots, which is a matter of serious concern.

The statement added that the world’s silence is only emboldening the BJP regime to systematically intensify its repression in IIOJK.

The spokesman maintained that the iron-fist policy of the BJP regime is a challenge to the international community and demanded that the Indian government, its armed forces deployed in the disputed territory, and its cohorts must be held accountable for trampling the rights of the people of the occupied territory.
