BHIMBER (Kashmir English): Continuous heavy rain in Bhimber and other districts of Azad Kashmir has caused rivers and canals to overflow.

According to a spokesperson for Rescue 1122 Bhimber, rescue teams are on high alert and actively deployed on the directives of higher authorities.

The public has been urged to stay away from rivers and canals to avoid any mishappenings.

Meanwhile, the meteorological department has forecast heavy rains, strong winds, and thunderstorms across Azad Kashmir from August 23 to 27.

The department has warned of possible flooding in rivers and canals, flash floods, and landslides during this period.

The rescue 1122 spokesperson further stated that tourists and travelers should avoid unnecessary travel, particularly at night, due to the risk of road blockage and accidents.

Government schools have been evacuated to act as emergency shelters as a precaution. People who live close to rivers and canals have been told to evacuate immediately if the rain gets heavier.

It has been further said that if the communication system is affected in any area, the citizens should inform the nearest police station or check post so that timely action can be taken.
