LAHORE (Kashmir English): The Internal Accountability Branch of the Punjab Police has completed the inquiry into the Bhatti Gate case on the orders of the Chief Minister of Punjab.

The inquiry was conducted by Additional IG Imran Mehmood, DIG Nasir Aziz Virk, and DIG Imran Kishor

According to the inquiry report, the accused police officers said that”  We were ordered to arrest Ghulam Murtaza by SSP Operation and DIG Operation.” Both the accused accepted the allegation that “Ghulam Murtaza was lightly tortured.”

The SP and SHO took the woman’s husband, Ghulam Murtaza, to the Bhati police station from the incident spot, and neither police officer questioned the other relatives who came with Ghulam Murtaza.

Both police officers immediately called the girl’s father and they also made Tanveer, a relative of Ghulam Murtaza, sit in the police station.

Evidence was also obtained from the video of the camera installed in the SHO’s room, as Ghulam Murtaza was kept in illegal detention for 5.5 hours.

The inquiry team also went to Shorkot and recorded Ghulam Murtaza’s statement. Ghulam Murtaza stated that the police officers kept pressuring him to accept the charge of killing his wife and daughter.

Both police officers mishandled the incident in an unprofessional manner. The inquiry report recommends departmental action against both police officers.

The inquiry report of Bhatti Gate case has been submitted to the IG Punjab, who will submit the report to the Chief Minister of Punjab.

Rescue and other agencies had told us that it is impossible for a woman to drown here. That’s why we took Ghulam Murtaza to the police station on suspicion, statement of the accused police officers as per the inquiry report.
