ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): President Azad Jammu and Kashmir Barrister Sultan Mahmood held an important meeting with Vice Chairman of the AJK Bar Council, Advocate Uqab Hashmi, at Kashmir House in Islamabad. The meeting focused on legal reforms, the Kashmir freedom movement, and strengthening the role of lawyers in the region.
During the detailed discussion, Barrister Sultan Mahmood emphasized the vital role of the AJK Bar Council in ensuring the supremacy of law and constitution in Azad Kashmir. He stressed the need for quick and affordable justice for the people so that Azad Kashmir can truly become a “base camp” for freedom and justice.
Barrister Sultan Mahmood encouraged the legal community to continue their contribution to the Kashmir freedom struggle, while also working to strengthen justice within the region. He urged lawyers to actively highlight the human rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir and use platforms like media and social media to raise awareness at national and international levels.
The AJK President noted that the legal community has always played a powerful role in major national movements, especially the Kashmir cause. He said it is important that lawyers not only fight for justice within courts but also become the voice of oppressed Kashmiris.
The two leaders also exchanged views on various issues of mutual interest, including the legal challenges facing Azad Kashmir and ways to improve governance and justice delivery mechanisms.
Barrister Sultan Mahmood assured full support to the Bar Council and promised continued cooperation between the government and the legal fraternity to ensure law, order, and justice in the state.
The meeting highlighted the commitment of both the AJK government and legal institutions to work together for the development of a just and democratic society, while also keeping the Kashmir issue in focus.
