LAHORE (Kashmir English): The bail application of five accused in the Bhati Gate manhole case in Lahore has been approved after a compromise between the parties.

Judicial Magistrate Shafqat Abbas ordered the release of five arrested suspects in the case, where a mother and daughter died after falling into an uncovered manhole in Lahore’s Bhati Gate area.

As per details, the complainant told the court that they no longer wished to pursue the case and had no objection to the suspects’ acquittal or discharge.

In a post on X, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz confirmed that “the complainant of the case in the Bhati gate manhole incident has effected a compromise with the accused.”

“Husband of the deceased (Ghulam Murtaza) has taken 85 lacs, and father (Sajid) has taken 25 lacs,” she posted.

The accused include Salman Yaseen, Usman Yaseen, Ahmed Nawaz, and two others.

Victims, 24-year-old Sadia and her 10-month-old daughter Rida Fatima, had come to Lahore from Jhang with their family to visit Lahore.

After visiting Data Darbar, the family was about to sit in a rickshaw when Sadia and Rida slipped into an open manhole near an under-construction site of the Bhati Gate expansion project.
