BAKU (Kashmir English): Dr Ahmad Shahidov, head of the Azerbaijan Institute for Democracy and Human Rights, has stated that Pakistan has given a strong response to India’s threats. In a post on social media platform X, he emphasised that Azerbaijan does not yield to pressure.
Dr Shahidov urged those threatening Azerbaijan with sanctions and travel boycotts to “study history carefully,” stressing that the Azerbaijani nation has “never learned to bow to pressure.” He reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s unwavering support for Pakistan’s justified stance, declaring that “no political threats can change our position.”
Responding to Indian tourism companies’ calls for a boycott or economic pressure, Dr Ahmad Shahidov said Baku has sent a clear message: “We will not abandon our principled stand.”
He further stated that Azerbaijan has never betrayed a brother for personal gain. Our friendship is not transactional, it is a matter of values. We protect not only our economy but also our political freedom.
While acknowledging that Azerbaijan may face fewer tourists or temporary trade disruptions, he concluded: “There might be fewer visitors or a pause in rice exports, but dignity and brotherhood will always remain.”
