ISLAMABAD: The Punjab government has halted the shipment of over 3,000 tons of wheat purchased by the Azad Kashmir government from the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASCO), Dunya News reported.

As per details, the trucks, loaded with wheat worth millions of rupees, have been stranded in Mianwali for the past five days.

According to the sources, the Punjab government stopped the trucks from proceeding to Azad Kashmir, resulting in significant financial losses for truck owners and potential spoilage of wheat.

Despite payment being made in cash to PASCO, the Mianwali district administration has not provided any reason for stopping the shipment.

The halt in wheat supply may lead to a food crisis in Azad Kashmir, where flour is provided at a subsidized rate.

According to sources, the Azad Kashmir Food Department purchases wheat worth Rs 32 billion from PASCO annually, with an additional Rs 8 billion spent on delivery, totaling Rs 38 billion.
