Army Chief to Become ‘Chief of Defense Forces’ Under New Army Act 2025

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The National Assembly on Thursday approved the Pakistan Army (Amendment) Act 2025 following the ratification of the 27th Constitutional Amendment.

Under the newly approved legislation, a fresh notification will be issued for the appointment of the Army Chief as the Chief of Defense Forces, a new designation aimed at integrating and restructuring all Pakistan armed forces under a unified command.

After his new appointment as Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir’s tenure will restart, and it will be five years from the date of his appointment.

According to the proposed Army Act, the Prime Minister will appoint the Commander National Strategic Command on the recommendation of the Army Chief and the Chief of Defense.

The proposed Army Act states that the term of the Commander National Strategic Command will be 3 years, and the Commander National Strategic Command can be reappointed for three years.
