MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has ruled that employees holding MS degrees are eligible for MPhil allowance.

The court’s verdict came in response to an appeal filed against a High Court judgment dated March 5, 2024.

Accepting the petition, the Supreme Court ruled that MS degree holders are entitled to a special allowance equivalent to 50% of the PhD allowance.

The allowance will be applicable from May 23, 2017, the date of clarification issued by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The concerned departments have been directed to process and disburse the allowance to eligible employees within a reasonable timeframe.

The ruling is expected to benefit a large number of employees in Azad Kashmir who hold MS degrees.

The top court’s decision is likely to have a significant impact on government employees in Azad Kashmir, providing them with increased financial benefits. The ruling also sets a precedent for similar cases in the future.
