RAWALAKOT (Kashmir English): The stormy rain in Rawalakot and its surroundings created catastrophic scenes with several settlements inundated and structure damaged.
Poonch Division also bore the brunt of the heavy rains and several areas were severely affected by the sudden surge in seasonal streams.
In the affected areas, the foundations of dozens of houses were damaged, and constructions along the banks of rivers and streams were completely submerged.
As a result of the heavy rain, the city’s streets, markets, and low-lying settlements were inundated.
Rains damaged standing crops
Water entered houses, destroying household goods and valuable items. Livestock were swept away, and standing crops suffered severe damage. The transportation system was also badly affected.
Kharak-15 Bridge remained closed for four hours due to the flood, while traffic on main and link roads is disrupted due to landslides and cracks at various points.
Tain, Dhalkot, Toli Pir, Lasdana, Goin Nala, and Thalla Mujahidabad roads were completely closed due to landslides. Traffic was also suspended at Bagla Cross due to landslides.
The electricity supply system was also affected due to heavy rain. Poles fell in many areas, and transformers burned out, leading to prolonged load-shedding. Water supply lines also broke down in various areas.
The main road from Kotli to Mirpur at Gulpur Maholi has been temporarily closed due to a landslide.
Transporters and passengers have been advised to use the old Maholi route.
