AJK govt provides Rs8.96 million for impoverished patients’ treatment

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has provided financial assistance to 17 impoverished patients for medical treatment outside AJK.

Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq has issued cross-checks worth Rs 8.96 million to various public-sector hospitals in Pakistan.

Earlier on April 23, a meeting of the Medical Board, held under the chairmanship of Secretary Zakat and Ushr Arshad Ahmed Qureshi, reviewed the cases and approved millions of rupees from the Zakat Profit Fund of the AJK government.

This amount was approved for the treatment of life-threatening diseases that could not be treated within Azad Kashmir.

As per the details, the Zakat department issued Rs5.27 million for 10 patients for heart bypass surgery, Rs3.79 million to 7 patients for cancer treatment, and Rs0.5 million to one patient for bladder treatment.

The AJK government, through the Zakat and Ushr Department, has been providing financial assistance to poor and needy patients for medical treatment outside the state, the statement issued by AJK PID said.

Earlier, Rs11.89 million was spent on the treatment of 21 patients in Pakistani public-sector hospitals, including 17 patients with heart disease and 4 patients with cancer.

Chief Administrator Zakat and Ushr, Chaudhry Muhammad Razaq, has urged poor and needy patients to contact Zakat district offices or the desk established in district hospitals for treatment in government hospitals in Pakistan so that his treatment can be assured.
