MUZAFFARABAD( Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Food Authority on Tuesday imposed a fine of Rs1 Lakh on ‘MB Foods’ for selling unregistered and substandard products in Muzaffarabad and other AJK districts.

As per details, the food authority on Monday seized a truck full of substandard and unauthorised ‘Boss’ snacks in Hattian Bala. The Mazda vehicle was traveling from Muzaffarabad to Jhelum Valley when the official inspected and seized a large consignment of adulterated snacks.

The press release, issued with the authorisation of the Secretary Food Authority, stated that ‘MB Foods’ was found to be selling products other than its registered items and without any Laboratory Test.

Therefore, for violation of Section 33 (Business without license) of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Food Authority Act, a fine of Rs. 1,000,000 is imposed on MB Foods, the press release read.

Furthermore, the Food Safety Officer Muzaffarabad was directed to get the laboratory analysis of the seized stock and send the report to the office of the Secretary Food Authority so that further action can be taken.

“Under the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Food Authority Act, the company is required to bring only those products to the market which are registered and meet the standards,” the press release read.

District Food Controller Muzaffarabad Abrar Ahmed Mir said that efforts are being made to ensure the supply of adulterated food items. “Those who sell substandard food items are enemies of humanity. Such people do not deserve any concessions,” he said.

Mir further stated that special teams have been formed to provide quality items to the public during Ramadan.
