MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has extended the deadline for voter registration from April 7 to April 13, 2026, the spokesperson said in a statement.
The commission said that it has further extended the process of revision of electoral rolls for 33 constituencies of 10 districts of AJK and 12 constituencies of refugees residing in Pakistan for the upcoming AJK Legislative Assembly, which began on March 24, 2026.
In a statement, the AJK Election Commission appealed to the residents who have not yet registered their names in the electoral rolls to register their names in the electoral rolls by the due date.
“Thus, the process of revision/updating of electoral rolls for both categories of refugees residing in Pakistan, Jammu, and the Kashmir Valley, and the effects of Mangla Dam has also been extended from April 7 to April 13.
“Therefore, those refugees residing in Pakistan who have not yet registered their names in the electoral rolls of their respective categories should register their vote in the relevant category at the permanent address mentioned in the national identity card (NIC) by the mentioned date, by providing their identity card and proof of being a Kashmiri,” the statement concluded.
Schedule for electoral rolls
Last week, the AJK Election Commission issued a new schedule for the preparation, revision, and publication of electoral rolls across the state ahead of the general election 2026.
The press release issued by the spokesperson said that after all amendments and corrections, the final electoral rolls will be published on April 30, 2026.
It added that the process of voter registration and new entries in the draft rolls began on March 24 and will continue till April 07, which has now been extended to April 13.
The provision of initial electoral rolls by NADRA will be completed by April 10, after which the preliminary voter lists will be published for public inspection on April 13, the spokesperson said.
After that, citizens will be able to submit their applications for registration of their names, correction, or objection to any irrelevant name to the relevant offices from April 13 to April 17.
The hearing on the received applications will be held from April 17 to 20, and all decisions will be forwarded to the registration officers by April 21.
Lastly, after all amendments and corrections, the electoral rolls will be finally published on April 30.
The statement said that this campaign aims to completely update the 2022 electoral lists so that the names of all eligible citizens can be included in the voter list. “This will ensure transparent elections by updating the lists.”
“Instructions have been issued to all relevant departments, including NADRA and Deputy Commissioners, to ensure the completion of all steps within the stipulated time,” the spokesperson concluded.
