MIRPUR (Kashmir English): The authorities in Azad Kashmir have taken an important step to enhance tax collection in a transparent manner, especially the withholding tax.
Commissioner Inland Revenue (South Zone) Syed Ansar Ali, has formed a special task force in this regard.
The task force will continuously review and closely monitor taxes collected under Section 236H of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001.
According to the spokesperson of the Commissioner Inland Revenue (South Zone), the task force will perform its duties directly under the supervision of the Commissioner Inland Revenue, South Zone.
The task force will be led by Raja Muhammad Babar Khan, Assistant Commissioner Inland Revenue, and includes Inspectors Inland Revenue and other support staff.
The said task force will operate in Mirpur, Bhimber and Kotli districts and will prepare a separate report for each district and send it to the Commissioner’s office.
The task force will effectively monitor tax collection, review documentary evidence, verify data provided by taxpayers, and scrutinize taxes received under Section 236H.
Transparency in tax payment system
Identifying potential tax evasion or misrepresentation and taking immediate action, preparing monitoring reports and regularly reporting to the Commissioner’s office, raising awareness among the business community to facilitate and ensure transparency in the tax payment system, and establishing a continuous monitoring system through digital tools and modern technology are among the key objectives of the task force.
The Commissioner Inland Revenue (South Zone) also issued additional instructions that members of the task force will conduct regular field visits and compile information regarding withholding tax agents through contact with business communities.
The spokesperson said that the establishment of the task force is an important development towards strengthening the state economy and expanding the tax net.
