MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): To protect public health and safety, the Food Directorate of Azad Kashmir had prohibited the sale of unsalted butter manufactured by Adam’s Company following its failure in tests conducted by the National Institute of Health (NIH) Islamabad.
The consequence is being applied under Section 25 of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Food Authority Act 2017, effective from January 5, 2025.
This action follows the announcement of the discovery of substandard mineral water and substandard ghee in that area.
There is currently no strong checking mechanism in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, which has encouraged companies to manufacture foodstuffs that are of substandard quality.
However, the government’s efforts to address this risk and to protect public health are a step in the right direction. The Food Department has advised food safety officers to confiscate these defective products and send reports.
This should send a message to those companies that put quality and safety at risk. The Azad Jammu and Kashmir government is taking action to help ensure that there is safe, quality food in food supply chains.
