ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Foreign Office has denied that the person arrested in the Washington shooting is a Pakistani citizen. Initial reports had said that the arrested suspect, Luqman Khan, is an American citizen of Pakistani origin; however, a Foreign Office spokesperson clarified that this person is not Pakistani but an Afghan citizen.
According to foreign media reports, 25-year-old Luqman Khan was arrested on the night of November 24. Police stopped a truck in Canby Park West, in which Luqman was present. According to the police, Luqman Khan did not obey orders to get out of the vehicle and was arrested for resisting.
The report further stated that during the investigation, a pistol, a magazine, and a document planning the alleged attack were recovered from Luqman Khan’s truck. These documents included a diagram of the University of Delaware police station, signs of the entrance and exit doors, and the name of a police officer.
The US FBI also raided Luqman Khan’s house on November 25, a day after his arrest, from where more sophisticated weapons were recovered. In the initial claim, the US authorities had said that Luqman Khan was a student of the University of Delaware and was planning to attack the police department of the same university.
Later, the Foreign Office clarified that the arrested suspect is not a Pakistani citizen but an Afghan citizen, which proved the news about him being a Pakistani citizen to be false. This move confirms that there was a misunderstanding in the initial reports, and incorrect news was spread regarding Pakistani citizens.
