LEEPA VALLEY (Kashmir English): Yesterday evening, heavy rain and strong winds caused multiple Landslides in Leepa Valley and fallen trees, blocking key roads like Reshian-Leepa Road, Lamnian-Reshian Road and prompting authorities to halt travel for safety.
Severe weather conditions caused multiple Landslides in Leepa Valley and tree collapses in different locations during last night due to heavy rain and strong winds. The blockade of important roads demanded emergency intervention from local authorities during the crisis to open transport routes and secure public safety.
Local authorities reported four blockade points on the Lamnian-Reshian Road, which emerged as one of the badly impacted routes. Machinery units were dispatched to remove blocked materials and make traffic accessible again. The combination of extensive destruction and unfavourable weather conditions prevented recovery from the disaster sufficiently.
There were no verified updates from the Reshian-Leepa Road due to a complete lack of network coverage in that section. However, local officials suspect that the road may also be obstructed by fallen trees and landslides, similar to the Lamnian-Reshian stretch.
As of now, the Lamnian-Reshian Road has not been fully cleared. Authorities have stated that once it is reopened, the same machinery will be directed towards clearing the Reshian-Leepa Road. Due to the risk of further landslides, falling rocks, and unstable trees, it has been deemed unsafe to carry out road clearance operations during the night.
The SDO of Roads, Jhelum Valley requests the public including drivers and tourists to refrain from accessing Reshian-Leepa Road currently due to the Landslides in Leepa Valley. Any travel attempt into the area will threaten individuals with dangerous conditions that remain precarious.
The initiative to start operations will begin during the early morning hours. The intended start time for operating equipment was 4:00 a.m. to establish as fast road connectivity restoration as possible. Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) authorities actively track the situation and plan to issue additional information.
