MUMBAI (Kashmir English): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly warned all Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises against match-fixing threats in the ongoing tournament.
Indian media outlets reported that the Indian cricket board has cautioned all teams managements, players, coaches, support staff and even commentators about a suspect actively pursuing players and their families.
They quoted BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Security Unit (ACSU) as having claimed that a businessman hailing from Hyderabad and having a record of being involved in illicit activities, is in contact with bookies, and punters.
IPL stakeholders
The suspect is reportedly attempting to get closer to the IPL stakeholders and players by impersonating himself a cricket fan.
The reports claimed that the dubious businessman has been spotted at the team hotels and stadiums during the ongoing matches.
The reports claimed that the suspect is trying to befriend the players and support staff by inviting them to private parties.
He is also allegedly reaching out to IPL franchise owners family members, players, coaches, support staff and commentators.
The businessman offers to take them to jewellery shops and luxury hotels, pretending to be a fan.
Keeping in view the situation, the Indian cricket board has urged all the stakeholders to report any interaction with the businessman.
The Board has asked all participating teams and individuals to exercise caution and report any approach by the individual.
