MIRPUR (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has initiated a commercial feasibility study for a Mirpur airport project, marking a significant step forward in fulfilling the long-standing demand of the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir(AJK) and overseas Kashmiris. The establishment of this airport is expected to be a milestone towards a brighter future for the region.

The PAA has issued an advertisement to hire the consultancy services of a renowned firm for conducting the commercial feasibility studies for the proposed airport in Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Proposals have been invited from well-reputed consultants registered with the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) under profile code as per Board Law 1216. The selection will be made through the Quality and Cost Based Selection (QCBS) method.

According to the Pakistan Airports Authority, the detailed scope of work, terms and conditions, and other necessary details are available in the Request for Proposal (RFP) documents, which can be downloaded free of cost from https://eprocure.gov.pk under the PPRA Procurement of Consultancy Services Regulations, 2010.

The Authority has instructed that the proposals must be submitted in both hard format and through EPADS; otherwise, the submissions will not be considered. For registration, guidance, or technical difficulties in using EPADS, interested bidders may contact Mr Rizwan Mehmood, Director MIS PPRA, Room No. 109, First Floor, FBC Building, Sector G-5/2, Islamabad, at 051-111-137-237.

As per the instructions provided in the RFP documents, the prepared proposals must be submitted on or before 2:00 PM on April 30, 2025, via EPADS and in hard format.

The technical proposals for the Mirpur airport will be opened on the same day at 2:30 PM, while the financial proposals of technically qualified firms will be opened after the completion of the technical evaluation.

The necessity of an airport in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) can be highlighted through several key points, such as its impact on tourism and economy, that reflect its significance for both the local population and the broader region.
