MIRPUR (Kashmir English): Chairman World Forum for Peace & Justice (WFPJ) Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai has strongly condemned India’s recent action of imposing ban on the IIOJK Muslim outfits, Awami Action Committee and Ittehad ul Muuslomeen.

In a statement, he termed the New Delhi’s action a most alarming development took place in Kashmir.

The Awami Action Committee Jammu Kashmir is headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who also heads the All parties Hurriyat Conference.

Both entities were declared as an unlawful association by the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India with immediate effect.

“This notification shall have effect for a period of five years from the date of its publication”, Dr. Fai said in a statement.

The Kashmiri leader recalled the reasoning behind banning the organization given by the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs as: “Whereas, the Awami Action committee, chaired by Umar Farooq is indulging in unlawful activities, which are prejudicial to the integrity, sovereignty and security of the country.”

Dr. Fai said that Mirwaiz publicly said on October 4, 2024, that he believes that oppression, violence and guns cannot resolve the Kashmir issue, but it can only happen on table through a genuine dialogue process. Mirwaiz added that he has never advocated violence.

Dr Fai continued that likewise, it is none other than Mary Lawlor, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders who said, “Khurram Parvez is not a terrorist. He is a human rights defender.” Time Magazine wrote that Khurram Parvez is one of 100 most influential people of 2022.

The vereran Kashmir leader urged upon the United Nations Human Rights Council to persuade India that banning a social-educational institution will not serve the purpose of peace and stability in the valley.

Demand from India

He demanded that India lifts the ban on AAC adding it stands for peaceful resolution of the Kashmir conflict through dialogue and deliberation and not through violence and brute force.
