MIRPUR (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Wildlife Department denied reports alleging Mangla Dam drug smuggling, stating that the fish extraction contractor operates legally and the department fully cooperates with authorities.

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has denied recent media reports alleging large-scale drug smuggling through the contractor responsible for fish extraction at the Mangla Dam reservoir. The department clarified that such claims are unfounded and that all operations at the dam are conducted in accordance with state laws.

A representative for the department affirmed that the fish extraction contractor works under existing contractual terms that strictly regulate activities at Mangla Dam. The agreement binds the contractor to execute the extraction work by legal requirements. The spokesperson further emphasised that the department does not tolerate any unlawful activities disguised as part of the fish extraction process and denied the Mangla Dam drug smuggling claims.

“The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has a binding contract with the contractor, which requires strict compliance with state laws. Any illegal activity, including drug smuggling, is completely unacceptable, and we remain committed to working closely with relevant authorities to ensure transparency,” the spokesperson said.

The department assured that it is fully cooperating with law enforcement agencies and other state institutions in investigating any concerns. Department officials stressed that their Wildlife and Fisheries Department concentrates its efforts on responsible management of resources and conservation, followed by legal fishing practices while refusing any acts of misconduct.

Reports from the media indicated that the fish extraction contractor at Mangla Dam operated smuggling activities for illegal materials. Despite these claims, the department rejected them by pointing out that people should disregard unproven accusations such as the Mangla Dam drug smuggling claims.

Official authorities request the media to deliver accurate reports with responsibility when discussing involved matters. Authorities emphasized that unverified misinformation about fish brings false panic and negative impacts reputations when no factual proof exists.

Wildlife and Fisheries from the AJK Department remain at Mangla Dam as it monitors operations to guarantee adherence to all regulations while assisting relevant institutions to address valid concerns.
