ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): A local court in Islamabad on Tuesday sentenced the main accused, Umar Hayat, to death in the social media influencer Sana Yousaf murder case.
Additional Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka announced the reserved judgment, also imposing a fine of Rs2 million on the convict. He was also handed 10 years imprisonment and a Rs200,000 fine under Section 392
The court further sentenced the convict to 10 years imprisonment and a Rs200,000 fine under Section 499, while another one-year imprisonment and Rs100,000 fine were imposed under Section 411.
In total, he has been imprisoned for 21 years alongside fines amounting to Rs2.5 million.
In the previous hearing held on Monday, Umar Hayat formally refused to accept his initial confession, terming the case a blind murder and denying all allegations.
The 22-year-old accused told the court that he had no connection with the incident and claimed he was in Faisalabad at the time of the murder, adding that all allegations against him are entirely baseless.
The accused maintained that he never confessed to the murder and said all the evidence against him was fabricated.
Sana Yousaf had gained popularity on social media platforms, particularly TikTok, where she amassed a significant following, with nearly 800,000 followers on TikTok and around 500,000 on Instagram.
Sana Yousaf, a 17-year-old, was shot dead today at her residence in Islamabad’s G-13/1 sector on June 2, 2025. The deceased hailed from Upper Chitral.
The case remained the center of attention on social media, where the death of the victim Sana Yousuf was seen as a strong reaction in public and social circles.
Sana’s father reaction
Speaking to journalists after the court hearing, father of the victim, Yousaf, praised the judgment, saying that the judiciary has delivered the sentence in line with justice.
“We were waiting for this day for 11 months. The day has finally arrived,” he said, thanking the lawyers and media for their support.
“This decision is not just for us, but for the entire society. This is a lesson that if someone commits [such a heinous act], this will be their ending,” he said.
