ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): In a positive move for the entire nation, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has declared an electricity tariff reduction of 93 paisa per unit.
The notification has indicated that the adjustment in price was made for November, and consumers will get the benefit through their electricity bills in January. It has also been mentioned that the discount is available for every type of consumer all over the country, including Karachi.
The authority did, however, state that the lifeline users would not be included in the reduction of the electricity rates. This reduction followed closely on the heels of the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) petitioning the NEPRA to return Rs0.72/unit to consumers in the January bills, thereby potentially giving consumers relief of over Rs5.6 billion.
Every month, NEPRA evaluates fuel price adjustments to mirror changes in international fuel prices, and these adjustments in generation costs are passed on to the consumers in the next billing cycle.
