MIRPUR (Kashmir English): The South Zone of the Inland Revenue Department (IRD), Azad Kashmir, has successfully surpassed its tax revenue target of Rs 10.5 billion for the first quarter of the financial year 2025–26.

Despite multiple challenges, the department achieved a record collection of Rs 12.5 billion, according to a press release issued by the revenue department spokesperson.

The statement added that this collection reflects an excess of Rs 2 billion, a 3% increase over the quarterly target and equivalent to 18% of the annual revenue target.

The spokesperson noted that the due date for filing tax returns for the year 2025 was September 30.

However, due to the suspension of internet and mobile services since September 28, many taxpayers were unable to file returns on time, affecting immediate collections.

Despite these hurdles, the South Zone exceeded expectations, demonstrating what was described as “excellent performance and tireless work”.

On the achievement, Chairman Azad Jammu and Kashmir Central Board of Revenue and Secretary Inland Revenue, Muhammad Raqeeb Khan, appreciated the performance of the South Zone, urging the department to sustain momentum and strive to surpass annual targets as well.

Commissioner Inland Revenue South Zone, Syed Ansar Ali, said that a comprehensive strategy has been devised to maximize tax collection in the remaining quarters of the financial year, with particular focus on specific sectors.

He expressed confidence that, despite severe challenges, all efforts will be made to achieve the set revenue goals for the fiscal year 2025–26.
