CALIFORNIA (Kashmir English): OpenAI is turning ChatGPT into something more than merely a chat tool. With the introduction of Instant Checkout, customers now have the ability to purchase products directly from their conversations, making online shopping quicker and more convenient.
The firm mentions that ChatGPT currently deals with more than 2.5 billion daily prompts from its 700 million users globally, where a significant number of them are product recommendations.
Instant Checkout aims to close the gap between browsing and purchasing, providing direct buying without exiting the application.
The product is driven by the Agentic Commerce Protocol, a minimalist system that distills online shopping to the bare essentials. Customers can find and choose a product, approve charges, and enter shipping information in a single mouse click, then preview final prices, including taxes and shipping, and proceed.
The transaction is handled securely by Stripe, and merchants on websites like Etsy and Shopify are responsible for fulfillment. OpenAI emphasizes that shoppers are in complete control of the process and can cancel at any point before completing an order.
OpenAI has highlighted that the feature is focused on security and user trust. Payment tokens are encrypted, and merchants are provided with only the bare minimum information needed to process an order.
Currently, Instant Checkout is accessible only on certain platforms and merchants. That said, more extensive use is anticipated as AI commerce increases.
OpenAI reports it could add the feature to ChatGPT Pulse, allowing users to recommend products to themselves based on their chat history.
It is not clear if or when the feature will be available for Pakistani users.
