LAHORE (Kashmir English): Influential YouTuber Rajab Butt has ignited fresh controversy by voicing concern about what he calls “selective accountability” as part of a continuous crackdown against influencers who are accused of advertising betting Apps.
He made remarks while commenting on the recent arrest of fellow creator Saadur Rehman, also known as Ducky Bhai, stating law should be equal for everybody.
Rajab stated that betting app logos printed on Pakistan Super League jerseys and their advertisements running openly on mainstream media said it all. Why is there no action against the top people?” he questioned.
Rajab also observed that although several online influencers have supported such networks, only a few are being targeted, predominantly those that are easier to detain.
As much as he differs with Ducky, Rajab wished the latter and his family all the best throughout the ongoing investigation.
Trial of Ducky Bhai
Meanwhile, the court gave the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) five more days of Ducky Bhai’s physical remand in a high-profile case tied to online gambling apps.
The popular vlogger was dramatically held last week at Lahore Airport while allegedly trying to flee the country. Authorities accuse him of promoting illegal betting platforms, with the FIR claiming he even acted as a “country manager” for one app without government approval.
Rehman’s attorney snapped in court, asking why the investigators needed additional custody since they already had his laptop and phone.
But the NCCIA demanded further interrogation. The YouTuber now faces serious charges under the Prevention of Electronic Crime Act, 2016, as well as fraud and illegal prize-offering clauses of the Pakistan Penal Code. If found guilty, the ramifications could be serious.
