MUZAFFARABAD: UAJK National Conference on ‘Revitalising the AJK SDG-2030 Roadmap: Pathways to Sustainable Development’ is scheduled to take place at the King Abdullah Campus on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, organised by the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK), in partnership with the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Helping Hand for Relief & Development (HHRD).
The conference’s main focus will be developing an efficient framework for accomplishing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In an attempt to effectively solve regional issues, the opportunity to close gaps between academics, government, civil society, and local communities while encouraging innovation, research, and cooperation is looked forward to.
“As a leading institution in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, UAJK is committed to contributing towards sustainable development by promoting research-driven solutions and fostering partnerships,” said Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi, Vice-Chancellor of UAJK, in reference to the forthcoming event. He also expressed his organisation’s goodwill and stated that their commitment to tackling urgent issues that affect their region’s future is reflected in this conference.
He also added, “Our goal is to engage diverse stakeholders and collectively identify pathways to achieve the SDGs. This conference will serve as a platform to inspire innovation, share knowledge, and empower communities to take ownership of their developmental journey.”
The program will include interactive panel discussions, capacity-building workshops, and keynote addresses by renowned experts. To guarantee results, participants will work on creating working groups focused on the SDGs, developing SMART targets and establishing baselines. SMART here is used as an abbreviation for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.
“The success of sustainable development initiatives depends on collective action,” stated Dr. Abdul Rauf Janjua, Director of ORIC at UAJK, while emphasising the value of cooperation. The groundwork for collaborations and approaches that deal with common issues effectively will be established by this conference.
Researchers, legislators, development professionals, and community leaders are all invited by the UAJK to be a part of the significant occasion and help create a sustainable future for the area.
Recent achievements other than the UAJK national conference
Previously too, UAJK ranked among the top universities according to the 2025 World University Ranking. UAJK is the best university in AJK for engineering education. Currently ranked in the top 801–1000 colleges worldwide. According to the report, UAJK’s exceptional engineering achievements may be attributed to its high calibre of research, strong industrial ties, global outlook, research environment, and educational standards.
Another achievement was when UAJK was ranked first in the region and 35th nationally by the Times Higher Curriculum in 2024 for its excellent teachers, top-notch curriculum, and robust infrastructure.
The UAJK is a multifunctional university with multiple campuses. It is also AJKs biggest university The faculty of engineering, the faculty of health sciences, the faculty of arts, and the faculty of sciences make up the four faculties. Jhelum Valley (Hattian Bala), Neelum (Athmuqam), and Main (Muzaffarabad) are its three campuses. It provides a number of campuses and academic programs with specialisations in engineering, the arts, sciences, and the medical and health sciences.
