WAHINGTON DC (Kashmir English): The United States Department has issued a Level 3 travel warning, advising its citizens to avoid traveling to Pakistan because of the threat of terrorism and possible armed conflict.
Terrorists can strike at any time with little or no notice, targeting public places including transportation networks, markets, shopping centers, military bases, airports, universities, tourist spots, schools, hospitals, places of worship, and government buildings, US Advisory stated.
In a recent report published by Global Terrorism Index 2025, Pakistan was ranked the second-most terror-affected nation in 2024, with a 45% increase in terror-related fatalities and more than 1,000 attacks.
Major cities such as Islamabad possess more security infrastructure and resources, but situations can escalate rapidly even in the federal capital causing a concern of foreigners travelling to Pakistan.
The warning also advises US citizens to avoid going to protest gatherings. Additionally, some US citizens have been taken into custody for attending demonstrations or posting negative statements about the government of Pakistan.
For safety purposes, the advisory advises registering for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), remaining vigilant in the surroundings, steering clear of crowded areas, being prepared with an emergency plan, and acquiring medical insurance that covers evacuation.
