MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) law students protested in Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) today after the administration barred them from exams over minor unpaid fees, with the vice chancellor refusing to accept their demands.
Students of the Law Department at the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir staged a protest after being banned from taking their examinations due to fee-related issues. The protest took place inside the city campus, where students expressed their frustration over what they defined as unfair treatment by the university management.
According to the students who were present at the protest, a student from the ninth semester was removed from an ongoing exam over a mere Rs100 fee issue. They argued this was not the only incident, and claimed that two students had faced similar treatment the last day. The students alleged that such actions by the university management had become a routine event occurring every other day, showcasing their ineptitude, by publicly humiliating the students and forcing them out of the classrooms over little unpaid dues, consequently the UAJK law students protested.
Expressing their irritation, the students attempted to register their protest, but they were met with a strong response from the university’s vice chancellor. According to the students, instead of handling their problems, the vice chancellor warned them that if they failed to pay their dues, he would call the police. He also stated that no student demands would be considered or met under these conditions unless they paid their dues.
While the students are able to understand the importance of clearing dues, but resorting to humiliating them in front of their fellows and disrupting their examinations was not the right thing to do. The university administration should be able to handle such issues in a better way, and try to adopt a more humane approach and find alternative ways to resolve financial matters without risking their education.
