ISLAMABAD: The much-anticipated launch of satellite-based internet provider Starlink has been delayed as the company will have to wait longer to get a license to provide services in Pakistan.
According to the media reports, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has decided not to issue the license based solely on temporary registration.
The telecom authority has said that the permanent registration is required with the Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board (PSARB) for issuance of a license.
Starlink was initially granted temporary registration by PSARB on March 21, and the Board has also hired an international consultant to help prepare rules for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites.
But the company will not receive a full license until it meets all the regulatory and technical requirements for permanent registration. PTA has now made the issuance of Starlink’s full license conditional upon the completion of these procedures.
After the rules are made, a checklist for permanent registration will be prepared along with the finalisation of technical and regulatory requirements.
