MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): District Health Officer Muzaffarabad Dr. Aamir Shahzad Chaudhry has said that the spring water in villages Hariala and Rajpian in Muzaffarabad district is harmful to health in every respect and prohibited it from drinking.

In a letter to Deputy Commissioner Muzaffarabad, the health officer urged him to take action and stop the people of affected areas from using the contaminated water.

As per the letter, “Several appendicitis cases were reported from Muzaffarabad’s Hariala Gujaran, Rajpian, and other adjoining areas and district health authorities sent the samples of drinking water sources [springs] in these affected areas to the Environmental Protection Agency of Azad Jammu and Kashmir for laboratory analysis.”

According to the lab report, as per the communique, the spring water of Hariala village in Union Council Lawasi and Rajpian village was found to be harmful to drinking in every respect.

Therefore, the public should be informed to not use the water from these springs for drinking and the local police should stop people so that the spread of appendicitis can be controlled and the occurrence of this type of cancer in the public can be prevented.”
