JAMMU, Occupied Kashmir (Kashmir English): Restrictions have been further intensified across Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to the occupied territory on April 19.
According to Kashmir Media Service, on the heel of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Kashmir, the authorities have put in place strict restrictions across the territory, triggering widespread anxiety among the local population.
Restricted public movement, heightened deployment of Indian forces, and arbitrary detentions have been reported in several districts, particularly in Jammu region, according to KMS.
It said surveillance has been considerably increased, with security checkpoints, frisk operations and digital monitoring becoming more intensive.
False propaganda of normalcy in Kashmir
The repressive measures, seen as part of India’s broader strategy to stifle dissent and project a false propaganda of normalcy, have disrupted routine life and deepened the sense of alienation among Kashmiris, who view Modi’s visit as a symbolic reinforcement of India’s illegal occupation rather than an inauguration of a train or a bridge in the territory.
The Special Protection Group, responsible for Modi’s security, has taken control of the venue in Katra, Reasi district.
Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the first train to occupied Kashmir on April 19.
Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat chaired a high-level meeting in Jammu to review the arrangements for the visit and directed officers to ensure foolproof security arrangements.
