Muzaffarabad: The President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) was called on by a delegation from Barnala, Abuwala, on January 24, 2025.
Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, the President AJK, has reiterated his dedication to working closely with the people of Mirpur Division to prioritise addressing their urgent problems.
The delegation comprised Chaudhry Sanaullah, brother of former assembly candidate Chaudhry Nasrullah (late), Chaudhry Fahdan Nasir, Chaudhry Shiraz Anwar, and Chaudhry Walid Zafar.
Further, he spoke warmly of his long-standing friendship with the late Chaudhry Nasrullah and pledged to maintain it in the future. Addressing the occasion, Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, recalling years of friendship with the late Chaudhry Nasrullah, said that he had a very close and cordial relationship with him, which will continue in the future.
President Chaudhry underlined his commitment to maintaining communication with residents of all constituencies in his parent division of Mirpur to learn about their challenges, including everyday social concerns. He claimed to be in communication with residents of every Mirpur division constituency.
He received this assurance on Friday at the Jammu Kashmir House in the Federal capital while meeting with a group of public officials from the Barnala (Abuwala) constituency.
The president of AJK happily welcomed the visiting delegation’s invitation to tour their constituency while reaffirming their commitment to the president.
On August 25, 2021, President Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry took the oath of office as President of AJK. He continued to serve as PM of AJ&K till 1996. He was elected as the opposition leader in 2001 and a member of the AJK Legislative Assembly five times over various terms. Since April 2023, he has served as AJK’s 15th prime minister, succeeding Sardar Tanveer Ilyas.
The late Kashmiri politician Chaudhary Noor Hussain Jatt, who co-founded the Azad Muslim Conference with Sardar Ibrahim Khan but took the lead after the latter resigned, is the father of Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry. He is a member of the Jatt family, who have contributed to the cause of a free Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, he served in the legislative assembly of Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
