NEW YORK (Kashmir English): Pakistan’s UN diplomat Saima Saleem said that the real cause of instability in the region is India, which is promoting cross-border violence.

She said that the New Delhi government is spreading terror and unrest in the region through proxy groups.

At the same time, minorities in India are facing systematic oppression and violence and are not even given the right to worship freely.

Saima Saleem reminded that suppressing minorities is now part of the official policy of the Indian government.

The Gujarat riots are a clear example of this, which the world still remembers as cruelty and barbarity.

She added that Islamophobia has been made a tool of politics in India and a source of pride in the media, which is giving rise to a dangerous trend at the global level.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday highlighted the human rights violations in Kashmir and Palestine and, condemning terrorism, reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace and dialogue, but vowed to resolutely defend the nation against any external aggression or India’s usurpation of water rights.

The prime minister, in his 25-minute address at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), encompassed all national, regional, and international issues, including the recent Pakistan-India war, Kashmir, Palestine, terrorism, Afghanistan, ongoing floods in Pakistan, and multilateralism.

PM Shehbaz, who spoke for the third time to the 193-member world body, began his remarks highlighting the world’s complexities like intensifying conflicts, violation of international laws, humanitarian crises, disinformation, arms race, emerging technologies, and climate change.
